Tidewalk Games - Keeping Retro Gaming Fresh

Remember tearing open the shrink wrap of a brand new Nintendo (NES) game? The excitement? The thrill? Those days are here again thanks to the people of Timewalkgames.com. A mostly fan based group who create actual games for SNES and NES. They create brand new art, manuals, maps and even boxes of hacked, homebrew, rare and "only released in Japan"games.

Where else you going to own Stadium Events for under $70?

From reproductions of Stadium Events and Donkey Kong Country Competition Cartridge, to re-makes of games like The Legend of Zelda and Punch Out, Timewalkgames.com is helping keep Physical Media alive, and that's OUR kind of people!

A Labour of Love

Admittedly "not getting rich here!", Timewalkgames.com is recreating that same nostalgia most of us had as retro gamers, opening a brand new video games from our childhood. With a smattering of games available from their website, their selection ranges from homebrew fan made games to translated japan only released games no available for us to play on SNES or NES, which is awesome!

Clock Tower for the SNES released by Tidewalkgames.com - $98

Finally we can play games that we've only heard rumours of. One of the games we were excited for was Clock Tower for the SNES. Some of you may know the game from the PS1 release, but it was originally made for the Super Famicom system in Japan. Timewalkgames have made a pretty neat package for the game, playable on the SNES, where it was MEANT to be played (well, kinda!). Pretty cool to own, but the $98 price tag seems pretty steep. We have to remember, these are not mass produced games, therefore, price to produce is up. They're "not getting rich here!". Many people on Youtube attest to the high quality of the box, art, manual and cartridge.

Considered the best Hack version of Zelda ever made - $68

Probably our favourite release is Zelda Outlands, complete in box for the NES. This is considered the BEST hack version of Zelda ever made by retro gamer insiders. It's essentially made off the original Legend of Zelda, with new overworld configuration, new dungeons and enemy placement. This is by far is the BEST reason for Timewalkgames to exist, to package and release games like this, giving it the love it deserves. Fan-made "hack" games like these take YEARS to make, considering they're usually just less than 10 person teams working FOR FREE to re-create a game simply for the LOVE of retro-gaming (and most hack games are crap!).

"All New" Punch Out! for the NES - $68

On the down side, we orignally were excited to hear of an ALL NEW Punch Out for the NES, but it was all for nothing.  We loved the original punch out, but this game boasts brand new boxers for Little Mac, as well as a new ref who's morals we'd have to question. Complete in box and manual, it costs $68. Pretty pricey, however, this game could only be made with a Mike Tyson's Punch Out donor cart (an original NES cartridge erased to house the data). Sadly, after watching game play footage of this, it seems it's only re-skinned sprites with the same move set and patterns as the original Mike Tyson version (Piston Honda was replaced w/ an 8-bit version of Aran Ryan). Still might be fun to play and own.

Overall, we're happy Timewalkgames.com and other sites like it exist. In our opinion, some games are MUST OWNS while others are passable, check out their website. We always will fight for keeping physical media alive, and we like Timewalkgames.com - now send us a free game! =) *wink.

Nintendo Wii Motion Plus for $3.99 found at Value Village. I don't know if it was a screw up from an employee as the Motion Plus attachment was in the rubber sleeve. It may have been overlooked when they put it out on the floor. Nintendo did release Motion Plus controllers, only time will tell if the attachments are sought out for in the future.
