De La Soul is... Missing?

Could it be? A golden ticket of some sort? Nope. It's De La Soul Is Dead. From the recent thrift store exodus yesterday . NC was lucky enough (or shall we say gifted enough?) to find this bad boy in a pile of DVD's. What is it? De La Soul Is Dead - Promotional Copy ! As the music guy and hip-hop head for the blog I had no idea this existed... until now.

50% off Day Value Village... I'm running out of clothes.

Hey LP, which way to the Thrift Store? Prarie Inn Jacket - $4 Beautiful sunny day and 50% off day at the Thrift... We were up at 7am to check out the racks and find some sweet threads and other hidden treasures.

Namco Arcade Joystick - The Original

The original Sony PlayStation was a great system. In fact, probably the best system with almost arcade perfect ports of fighting games. Today we will look at the first official joystick released the Namco Arcade Joystick .

Manitotba Comic Exchange 2012

Winnipeg's comic book fans gathered Sunday for Manitoba Comic Exchange (MCE), a fun day of local dealers and closet collectors coming out to pimp out their wares, amongst the mass of stuff that is Thirsty's Flea Market. Comics, Video Games, Collectables... yes we were there!

I Found my Hangover Burger (if I had them) at Unburger

Un burger` s Drunken Aussie - Omega 3 egg, pinapple, beets, double smoked bacon, Bothwell cheese, lettuce and herb mayo on a whole wheat bun. Part of what we do at 204 HIPHOPROBONINJAZOMBIETURTLES is represent our city, Winnipeg. I know we aren`t a food blog per say, but Thrift Dwellers need fuel too. So, let me present to you,  Un burger , Winnipeg`s healthy gourmet burger joint. I would say I know what a good burger tastes like, having eaten them before =P, but they say in the restaurant (literally written on the wall) they love burgers so much, they wanted to make ones that you could eat everyday... could  Un burger deliver on this promise? (I hope so)

Bad Boy Records - Can't Stop, Won't Stop. (1994-1999)

Making History.... In honor of The Notorious B.I.G's 15th anniversary of his death. I present to you my collection of the complete 90's discography for Bad Boy Records. From hardcore hip-hop, smooth R&B, the dreaded "shiny suit" era, and to the end where none of it made sense anymore. Any fan of music will appreciate what Puffy (Yes, we still call him that.) has brought to the music world.

The Collector Strikes

We just started a section call " Recent Pickups ", which we will be updating regularly when we buy stuff.  N8 is Retro Video Game guy (nintendo, sega and playstation) and LP is the music man who collects CDs.  Originally, we started this blog to talk about the items we buy from Winnipeg's second hand spots, like Thrift Stores and Pawn Shops. We call this Winnipeg's "discarded subculture", our city`s micro history on what was prevalent at the time. They say you can tell a lot about a city by the way they entertain themselves... but what can you tell about the things they throw away? (Man, VHS was big back then!) Sometimes we find treasures, sometimes just empty promises... Visit  Recent Pick Ups  <<<

How I Got a Job with Capcom...(Not me, this guy!)

Brian as Shredder, I think I had this dream in grade 7. Mega Man, Street Fighter, Resident Evil... These were my adventures growing up. Legendary developer Capcom has been making games since Atari, I even remember playing original Street Fighter on my Commodor 64. Recently, I was on a trip to Mexico and met the man of my dreams... well... sort of. His name was Brian... and he works for Capcom (I swear, I read his name on Dead Rising 2!) . He was cool enough to share some insight on how he got every boy's dream job... including mine...  >>Interview after the jump.

Friday Night Fights - Test Your Might!

Beating up all your buddies at home? Time to take it to the streets. Every Friday,  chipdamage.com hosts a weekly fight club... for video games that is. A group of local fighting game enthusiasts gather at the University of Manitoba Science Lounge and duke it out in video games, like Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom and Soul Caliber...

My Master Bedroom - Thrift Designers Inc?

I call my room "thrift designed".  Everything in our room was either on sale, found or made by my wife and I (LP helped too, thanks bud).   I made our head board out of an old door, I hung an old city hall ceiling tile on the wall and made my own art. Originally, it was my sister who inspired me to fix up our old room, she's talented at making things beautiful...

PSVita at EB Games Polo Park - First Impressions

PSVita Demo Selection Screen A trip to the mall for some Starbucks coffee lead me to EBGames at Polo Park. To my surprise there was a PSVita hardware demo/kiosk. With it's release imminent on the 22nd. There are a few lucky people who've already pre-ordered and got theirs early. Some will have to wait until the official release day.

Adventure to Game Knight Games... Wine Included.

Game Knight Games - 726 Osborne Street Another beautiful day in Winnipeg. With a day off from our regular 9-5's, we went to Game Knight Games. It's a neat store with Fantasy games, toys and other cool things. Surprisingly half of the business is a wine store as well. Get drunk and play games? You decide! Check them out and tell the the THRIFT DWELLERS sent you... More after the jump.

My Top 3 Loved Worn Nike Dunks

In honour of this past Lover's day, I have 3 of my most loved, worn (not new) Nike Dunks from my collection. Brand new, these kicks can be worth b/w $250 - $350, mainly because they are sold out, and only available through Nike Select SB dealers in the first place. If you see these at the thrift store, pick them up, I've read of kids finding Dunk SBs and even early JORDANS and selling them to Japan for hundreds... Not bad for $10 investments.... So gather round as we discuss more shoes... and hopefully you can become a little smarter "thrifter." (also check out my previous Dunk Post - Avengers )

For all the lovers... Happy Valentine's Day!!

It's that time of year again! From us to you. Happy Valentine's Day! We all know it's a corporate holiday. But some people do cherish this day. Thrift Dweller NC himself has a special someone in his life. So shout out to him! Myself on the other hand is free, so with this post I present a playlist for you lovers out there after the jump!

Sexy Finds at the Thrift Store - Clothing Swag

My wife looks a lot hotter modelling my clothes than I do, so that's what I did.  Thrift Stores are an awesome place to get "new" clothes, or as  theICEMAN289  would say, "swag".  To us, the hunt is to find good condition, old school swag, (i.e. Starter, Raiders or Chicago Bulls gear.) that's how you "keep it real!" Enjoy the latest pick ups. -thrift dweller picture blog.

Whitney Houston Dead at 48

A brilliant voice of our generation has been lost. The Queen of Pop, Whitney Houston was found dead in a Beverley Hills Hotel at the age of 48. No cause has been released at this time, but what is known is that another raw talent has left this earth prematurely. Although the recent years of her life have been mered in controversy, the legacy she has left and the music she has made will live on for generations. photo credit - vintagevinyljournals.com Whitney Houston was the female force of the late 80's, she was the first female to have a no.1 best selling album and the inspiration of many superstars, such as Brandy and Christna Aguilera. With songs like I Will Always Love You and The Greatest Love of All , her unforgettable voice was not only the soundtrack to movies, but also our lives. She will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. -thrift dwellers

PSP Game Demos - Wasted disc space.

Part two of my series of game collectibles from Sony. Coming from a cool beta tester to a recipient of cheap demos which should of easily been downloadable demos. Gangs of London and Killzone Liberation, games that really didn't do any justice showing the PSP's capabilities. Sometimes I wonder why I even have these.

Nike Dunk Collection - Blue Avengers

St.James Underpass -1) Stussys, Oompa Loompas, Blue Avengers and Hawaii's 2) Blue Avengers Back in the early 2005 my cousins and I were addicted to collecting Nike Dunks. We were thousands of $ deep in Dunks (This is what I refer to as the  shoe monster ). I began selling off most of my collection (for a profit may I add), I have retired form the  shoe game. Although,  I still have a few select pairs for my "stash"  (you can't expect me to quit cold turkey, can you?). It's hard to justify showing off $400 on your feet, for now, I can at least share them with you on our blog.

1980's Nintendo Sign for Auction - Winnipeg MB

I helped Mario save Princess in 1992, but could I save Nintendo in 2012? Febuary 7 was another winnipeg auction in the books. We spent the night watching Big Daddy Taz (comedian) dominate the crowd, but our mission was one of one of stealth. A sexy 1980's Nintendo sign was up for auction, the Thrift Dwellers did their best to save it from anyone who tried to defile her... We also tried to save the Ghostbuster's power pack, ET and Comic Books... were we successful?

A day off. Let's go to the music store!

A nice, sunny and somewhat cold day. Where else to spend it but at a local music store. The spot? Music Trader here in Winnipeg. It's a great store in Osborne Village, and has been a great source for most of my collection in the past 10+ years. I usually visit Music Trader on my days off. Here's a tour and my finds.

Video Game Collection 2 - I Think I Got a Problem

Literally, I'm capturing my child hood in a cardboard box labeled Nintendo...Thrift Dwelling has allowed me the opportunity to own many consoles previously out of my reach. Sega Genesis, Dreamcast, X-Box... Even Sega Master and Atari systems. I can't fit all of them in this picture...My wife says I got too many. It was difficult for me to sell off some of my systems, that's when I first thought I had a problem. So, in that spirit, continuing my video game collection  review, I took out most my consoles and boxes for you... so enjoy

My brief career as a PlayStation 2 game beta tester

Live In Your World, Play In Ours Remember that slogan? The summer of 2001, 17 young and had a job! What did I do with my cheque before school started? I bought myself a PlayStation 2, blew 600 bucks that day, console, extra controller, memory card and 2 games which were Onimusha and International Track and Field. It was good times, it was a step up from the PS1 and N64 which NC and I played with friends all the time during lunch hour. LOL (that's another story in itself, we played NBA Hang Time until the PS1 froze, no joke!). I was lucky enough to buy the "fat" version of the PS2, a year later they released a network adapter for online play.

Adventures in hoarding... Variants.

With most people, collecting only one copy of an item is fine and good enough for them. In most cases, there are others who take it to the next level to find different variations of the same material. Personally, as a music collector, it is a must to have a complete collection.  "If you don't know, now you know ni**a" - The Notorious B.I.G. Can you spot the difference? So sit back, relax and get schooled on my first installment of Adventures in hoarding... Variants. Today we will look at The Notorious B.I.G's first album READY TO DIE .

Real Life X-Man... Kid Born with Night Vision

by "a dweller named NC" Meet Nong Yongsui, seems like a cool kid, likes to play sports... and born with night vision abilities. Lucky kid, I was born with weak joints an predisposition to diabetes. He maybe the first in a new breed of humans ... (original news cast after the jump)

posted by thrift dweller NC, LP Bullit? Thrift Dweller Hoard - Video Game Collection 1

posted by thrift dweller NC Gollum protecting My Precious video game collection.  My vice is video games (amongst many things). I've loved video games since I was a kid, but I've been hooked on thrift dwelling for 8 years+. Where else could I get Final Fantasy 7 for $1.99?  Recently, LP helped me archive my collection, to mine and my wife's surprise I've surpassed 400 games...
